As a long-time Elkhart Conn 8D fan, I wanted to post a quick look at some rare documents that came with a horn I recently purchased. The horn was a beautiful N-series 28D (a yellow brass 8D) which is pictured here.

While it is a privilege to work on, own, and sell a 28D, I think the original documents that came in the case are worth looking at closely. I don't know a whole lot about them, but I figured posting them for people to look at and read could be an interesting and helpful addition to the online horn

informational archive. Enjoy!

The original production schedule for this horn. Note the model number is actually recorded as 28D20. The serial number on this page does match the horn! I assume the triangular cutouts are basically checkmarks from the workers at the factory, but do not know for sure.

Nothing much to see on the back of the production schedule, but I wonder if the pen marks are someone signing the horn off? I don't know for sure. Could have also been someone just testing out a pen.

The Conn Care pamphlet as seen when fully open (front side). There is some helpful information here on general horn maintenance for the player!

The Conn Care pamphlet as seen, fully open, from the back. This must have been the pamphlet included with all brass instruments from Conn, because you see not only horn things here, but piston valve and trombone sections as well. I really like the maintenance chart!
