These old pre-letter series Elkhart-made Conn 8Ds are getting pretty hard to find. And this 600,000 series looks and plays great! It has the iconic 8D sound, looks beautiful, and also is a pretty rare and collectible vintage. There are nearly no dents (only one or two very small dings), and the horn looks amazing. It does not seem to be built under any tension, either, which really speaks to the quality of this horn. I did a video on my YouTube channel about this horn explaining this.
There are a few things to know about this horn. Due to the age of the horn, the valve compression is pretty low. The horn still plays well, but the valves need heavy valve oil to not leak. That said, when heavy oil is used, the horn plays great.
Second, there is a thin spot on the bell to be careful of. I'm fairly confident this is due to former dent work done where the tech buffed out leftover creases from a bell dent. This is on the flare side of the bell, and does not affect how the horn plays. I didn't find any other thin spots on the horn.
Included is a modern Conn fixed bell case in good used condition. No mouthpiece is included. Feel free to contact me with any questions you have!
