I really like how this horn plays. It has a nice, even sound in all registers (as most Holton horns do) but I think this was has a specific quality - it is a very agile horn. This horn plays very easily. It is so nice for playing fast passages. Accuracy is very easy. It feels near effortless. I don't usually like Holton horns this much.
 
I think this horn is a good solid step above a normal H179, too, because it seems to me to be able to play a good deal louder than the 179. Power can be a problem on Holtons, I've found, but this one doesn't seem to have an issue.
 
Of course there are the normal minor dings throughout (though there are no major dents), and of course there is some normal lacuqer wear, but nothing too bad. The biggest flaw on this horn is that there is a patched crack on the edge of the bell. I did this patch myself (the horn came in with a cracked bell). It is not as beautiful as I'd like it to be, and while working on the area the lacquer did burn. That said, a horn that was previously buzzing like crazy is now ready for more life on the concert stage and in the practice room. This 'defect' is, in my opinion, not anything to worry about, and at this point is simply cosmetic. But you should know about it.
 
Included is the original Holton Merker Matic case. No mouthpiece is included, but if you need one I can send a student mouthpiece (Holton Farkas or similar) with the horn for free upon request.
