The vintage Kruspe wrap sound world is mostly dominated by the Conn 8D, but there is a lesser-known model of horn of very similar playing characteristics that was also sold during this era. The Reynolds Contempora FE-01 is a large-bore Kruspe wrap instrument that was designed to compete with the 8Ds. And Reynolds really made a nice horn. This particular instrument is a fantastic example of one of these vintage gems!
This horn plays amazing. It is very agile, has a huge sound (very similar to an Elkhart 8D sound), and speaks amazingly in all registers. It has excellent valve compression and there is no pitting or any wear other than would be expected from a horn that is vintage, but was lightly used.
There are a few dings and dents here and there, and the lacquer is worn in some spots, but overall this horn is in amazing shape for its age!
I recommend this horn to anyone looking to get an excellent horn on a smaller budget. This horn can play right alongside more expensive models like the 8D, but doesn't cost as much. It would make a great horn for a college player, community musician, a backup horn, or whatever you need.
This horn comes in a vintage Conn case, which is used but is completely functional. There are some signs of wear, but it protects the horn well and is solid. No mouthpiece is included.
The serial number is 78078.
