A video demonstration of this flare can be seen here.
NOTE: in the video I suggest a lot that this could work for an 8D. But this would work and probably be a good upgrade for any Alex-compatible horn.
This nickel-silver Schmid flare is unusual because someone has changed out the original Schmid rings for an Alexander-compatible ringset. This makes quite a highly desirable bell much more universally usable. This bell has given every single horn I've tried it on a very sweet, distinct sound. I've tried it on a Cantesanu, an 8D, a Lewis, a Verus, and other horns. It gives them all quite a sweet sound. It is a pretty big bell. Without having the original ringset to read the code that Schmid engraves on the ring, I don't know for sure what size it is, but I'm pretty sure it is either a Wide or Extra Wide flare based on other Schmid flares I have in the shop. It is lacquered and in excellent used condition with only a few minor scratches to the lacquer and a couple tiny burn marks probably from when the ring was changed out by someone.
Though there are no markings on the bell, I'm fully confident that this is a true Schmid flare. The individual who sold it to me said it was, and I also have several Schmid flares to compare it with. The build of this flare is identical and to the same high standard as those original Schmid flares.
Feel free to contact me with any questions you have. This is an unusual, perhaps one-of-a-kind flare!
